Contractflow · Contract authoring
First drafts from language legal already approved.
Legal sets the templates and the clause library once. The business generates a first draft from them, filled from the request, a ServiceNow record or an RFx award, instead of editing last year's file.
Definition
What is contract authoring software?
Contract authoring software creates first drafts from approved templates and a library of pre-approved clauses, filling in parties, values and terms from existing data, so drafting starts from vetted language rather than an old file.
In Contractflow, legal keeps primary and fallback versions of each clause. Templates fill from the intake request, from ServiceNow records, or from an RFPflow award in one click, and the draft moves on to Word redlining and Aavenir AI review on the same record.
- Legal owns the templates and the clause library, with primary and fallback versions
- The business generates a first draft without editing old files
- Templates fill from the request, ServiceNow records or an RFx award
- Every draft starts from language legal has already approved
Our customers
Procurement, legal, IT, finance, and sales teams run their contracts on Aavenir.

How it works
How a draft gets written without a blank page.
-
Templates for each contract type, with versions Each clause kept as a primary with approved fallbacks New clauses wait in legal review before anyone can use them.
-
Supplier, value and term carry over from the intake request On ServiceNow, fields fill from the records you already keep From an RFx award, the supplier and awarded lines arrive in one click.
-
A first draft without opening last year's Word file Swapping in a fallback clause stays inside approved language The draft moves to redlining and Aavenir AI review on the same record.

What changes
Drafting that does not wait for one lawyer's inbox.
Templates and a clause library move routine drafting to the business, and keep legal on the exceptions.
Less waiting on legal
A leading Southeast Asian bank moved drafting and approvals off shared drives and trackers, and reports a 5x faster approval cycle.
Terms that read the same
Poorly defined payment terms cause disputes. Drafting from one library keeps payment and liability language consistent across contracts.
No retyping
Parties and values come from the request, the ServiceNow record or the award, which removes a common source of errors.

Aavenir and the alternatives
How Aavenir compares with the other ways teams do this.
| What matters | Aavenir | Standalone contract lifecycle management tools | Shared drives, email and spreadsheets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Native on ServiceNow, or deployed standalone | Their own platform, connected to other systems by integration | Wherever the file was last saved |
| One record across the lifecycle | Sourcing, contract, obligations and invoices on one record | Usually the contract stage, other stages through partners | No record, only files and threads |
| AI at each stage | Aavenir AI extracts terms, reviews against your playbook and tracks obligations, and a person approves | Varies by product, often strongest in review and search | None |
| After signature | Obligations assigned, evidence checked, renewals flagged before the notice window | Varies by product | A calendar reminder, if someone set one |
| Where others can be stronger | Configured to your workflow, one module or the whole suite | Often a quick start for a single legal team | Free and familiar, until volume grows |
Comparisons describe categories of tools, not named products. For named comparisons, see Aavenir compared.

Common questions
What is a clause library?
A clause library is a store of pre-approved contract language, kept as a primary position and approved fallbacks for each clause. In Contractflow, legal maintains it once and every template draws from it, so business drafts start from vetted text. See contract review.
Can the business draft contracts without legal?
For routine agreements, yes. The business generates a first draft from a template legal approved, and can only swap in fallback clauses legal already allowed. Edits outside the library, and anything Aavenir AI flags in review, still go to legal. See Contractflow.
Can a contract draft start from an RFP award?
Yes. When an RFPflow award closes, Contractflow drafts a contract for each winning supplier in one click, carrying the supplier, the awarded line items and the value into the template. See source to contract.
