Aavenir Atlas · AI contract intelligence · Early access
Something just happened. Which contracts does it touch?
When CPI moves, a supplier goes down or a deal changes ownership, Atlas asks the question across your whole portfolio, cites every clause it uses and ranks the findings by value. Then it suggests the next question to ask and the next action to take.
Animated walkthrough. Demo data, fictional companies.
Definition
What is AI contract intelligence?
AI contract intelligence is software that reads a whole contract portfolio, including masters, amendments and related agreements, and answers business questions about it with the source clause cited, so decisions rest on what was actually signed.
Search tools assume you already know what to look for. Aavenir Atlas starts from the event instead: an index move, an outage, an acquisition, a regulation. It finds the affected agreements, ranks the findings by value, and proposes the next best question and the next best action. The output is decision support, not a list of documents.
- Event first: start from what happened, not from a keyword
- Portfolio wide answers with citations back to the clause
- Findings ranked by value, so the biggest exposure comes first
- A next best question and a next best action after every answer
- Every action waits for a named person to approve it

The problem, and what Atlas does
A contract tells you what should have happened. Your systems tell you what did.
Teams negotiate rights such as service credits, rebates and price protections, then lose them at one of four points: the trigger, the amount, the claim and the settlement. Here is one service credit, first without Atlas, then with it.
Animated walkthrough. Demo data, fictional companies. Checking settlement against invoices needs connected data and is on the Atlas roadmap.
The questions that arrive without warning.
CPI moves Which suppliers can raise prices, and by how much? Atlas finds indexation and escalator clauses, the caps and notice terms around them, and ranks the exposure.See the use case
An outage Which outages earned service credits we have not claimed? Atlas lists the service levels, credit bands and claim windows in each affected agreement.See the use case
Change of control Which agreements need consent if we buy or sell? Atlas finds assignment and change of control clauses, who must consent and how much notice they need.See the use case

Obligations and entitlements
Every obligation has an entitlement on the other side.
An obligation is what somebody must do. An entitlement is what you get when they do it, or fail to. Teams negotiate entitlements carefully and then rarely collect them.
| Contract obligation | Entitlement it creates | What it is worth |
|---|---|---|
| Supplier must maintain 99.9% uptime | You can claim a service credit | Cash back on the next invoice |
| Supplier must meet annual volume pricing | You receive a lower price or a rebate | Retrospective and recurring |
| You exceed a purchase threshold | You earn a volume discount | Often the largest single line |
| Vendor delays delivery | You can apply damages or penalties | Rarely invoiced, often available |
| You pay for 10,000 usage units | You are entitled to consume those units | Shelfware, made visible |
| A warranty condition is met | You receive repair or replacement | Avoided cost |
| The contract permits termination for cause | You hold a termination right | A stronger hand at renewal |
| Price is indexed annually | The supplier can raise the price | Exposure to catch early |
Where the value goes
Four places a negotiated right stops being worth anything.
Teams lose entitlements at one of four points. Atlas is built to close each one.
Nobody saw the trigger
An outage, a volume threshold or an index print happened, and nobody connected it to the clause that it activates. Atlas starts from the event and finds the clauses it touches.
Nobody worked out the amount
The clause says a credit band or a rebate rate, but the arithmetic needs the contract and the data side by side. Atlas reads the terms so the calculation has its inputs.
Nobody filed the claim
Most credits must be claimed in writing inside a fixed window, and a missed window usually waives them. Atlas surfaces the deadline with the finding.
Nobody checked it was paid
A claim was raised and the next invoice arrived anyway. Reconciling settlement against invoices is part of the Recover stage on the roadmap.
Where Atlas is today
Ask, Watch, Recover. What works now, and what is still being built.
Legal and finance teams have heard enough AI promises. This is the honest state of play.
Ask: working now
Portfolio wide answers that cite the source clause, legal and compliance risk found across masters, amendments and related agreements, and extraction of every rebate, credit, penalty and price condition. No other system needs to be connected.
Watch: in development
Standing agents that work the portfolio on a schedule against your internal standards and external events such as regulatory change, ask the questions a specialist would ask, and come back with what they found.
Recover: on the roadmap
Connected queries into orders, invoices, consumption and performance data, so an entitlement the contract promises becomes a quantified recovery or exposure. This is what early access partners help shape.
What it looks like
Three events. Three answers, ranked by value.
Illustrative findings with fictional counterparties, showing the shape of an Atlas answer.
310 agreements with an escalation right
Commercial asked what a 6% CPI print meant. Atlas found the customer agreements with an escalation right and a 90 day notice clock already running. Clause 7.3, price escalation.
3 of 41 contracts with an unclaimed credit
After an October outage, Atlas checked the network contracts against the incident. Three allowed a claim, and two windows close within 30 days. Clause 8.4, service credits.
41 suppliers that need consent
Before signing an acquisition, corporate development asked which suppliers must consent to a change of control. Atlas returned 41, ranked by contract value. Clause 19.2.
Aavenir Atlas and the alternatives
Where Atlas fits next to the tools you already know.
Atlas is not a contract lifecycle management platform and not an audit firm. It reads the portfolio you already have and tells you what it says, and what it is owed. Each approach does something the others do not.
| What matters | Aavenir Atlas | Contract intelligence software | Recovery audit firms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting point | A business event, turned into the questions a specialist would ask | A search or a report on the repository | A sample of past invoices and supplier statements |
| How often | Whenever an event happens, with standing agents in development | When someone runs a search | Usually once a year |
| Reads amendments with the master | Yes, masters, amendments and related agreements together | Varies by product | Not usually, works from transactions |
| Answers cite the clause | Every answer | Varies by product | Findings cite the invoice |
| Full lifecycle workflow | Through Contractflow and Obligationflow, on ServiceNow or standalone | Often the core strength, especially for global legal teams | Not offered |
| Negotiates with suppliers for you | No, your team acts and a person approves | No | Yes, a real strength, often paid as a share of recovery |
| Checks what actually happened | Recover stage, on the roadmap with connected data | Rarely | Yes, on the sample audited |
Comparisons describe categories, not named products. Many large portfolios run an audit firm and contract intelligence side by side.

Common questions
How is Atlas different from AI contract search?
Search answers the question you thought to ask. Atlas starts from an event, such as a CPI print or an outage, turns it into the questions a specialist would ask, ranks the findings by value across the portfolio, and suggests the next question and the next action. See AI contract search.
What do next best question and next best action mean?
After each answer, Atlas suggests the follow up worth asking, such as which uncapped contracts renew soon, and the action worth taking, such as objecting to an increase or assigning an owner. Your team picks, and a named person approves every action. See the Intelligence Platform.
Which contracts can Atlas read?
Atlas reads masters, amendments and related agreements together, so a later amendment that changes a price or a notice period is not missed. It works from the terms Aavenir AI extracts, and every answer cites the clause so a reader can check it before acting. See AI contract extraction.
How do I join the Atlas early access program?
Early access is by invitation, for ten design partners. Apply with the form on this page and describe your use case. If selected, we load a sample of your agreements, your team asks Atlas questions for 14 days, and you keep the findings report. Browse the use cases.
Is Aavenir Atlas a replacement for my contract lifecycle management platform?
No. Atlas is a layer that reads a contract portfolio and answers questions about it. It works with Contractflow and Obligationflow on ServiceNow or standalone, and it can read agreements that live elsewhere once they are loaded. See Contractflow.
What is the difference between an obligation and an entitlement?
An obligation is what a party must do, such as meet 99.9% uptime. An entitlement is what the other party gets when it does or does not, such as a service credit. Atlas extracts both, so the rights you negotiated are visible. See service credit recovery.
Does Atlas need my order and invoice data?
Not for Ask. Portfolio questions, risk findings and entitlement extraction work on the contracts alone. Reconciling entitlements with what actually happened, the Recover stage, needs connected order, invoice or performance data and is on the roadmap. See invoice to contract compliance.
How is Atlas different from a recovery audit firm?
An audit firm samples past transactions, usually once a year, negotiates with suppliers and is often paid a share of what it recovers. Atlas reads the contracts themselves whenever an event happens and leaves the action with your team. Many portfolios use both. See the use cases.
