Use case · Supplier price increase review

A supplier raised prices. What do our contracts allow?

Before anyone replies to the letter, Aavenir Atlas reads the master agreement and every amendment for the escalation right, the index, the cap and the notice the supplier had to give. You answer with the clause, not a guess.

Definition

What is a supplier price increase review?

A supplier price increase review checks a requested increase against what the contract actually permits: whether prices can rise at all, by which index or cap, how often, from what date, and how much notice the supplier had to give.

The answer is rarely in one place. The master sets an annual adjustment, a later amendment caps it, a schedule fixes certain items for the term, and the letter arrives with less notice than the contract requires. Aavenir Atlas reads those documents together and returns the terms in force, so the buyer negotiates from the contract rather than from the supplier's letter.

  • Escalation rights, indices, caps and frequency found and cited
  • Amendments and schedules read with the master agreement
  • Notice requirements compared with the date of the request
  • A next best action proposed for the buyer to approve
  • Invoiceflow then holds invoices billed above the agreed price

Why it leaks

How increases get accepted that the contract never allowed.

Accepted by email

The account manager agrees on a call, and the new price list becomes the price.

Cap hidden in an amendment

The limit was negotiated two years later, in a document nobody opens with the master.

Notice never checked

The letter gives 30 days when the contract requires 90, and the earlier date sticks.

Invoices drift upward

Even when the increase is refused, the next invoices arrive at the new rate.

How it works

From the supplier's letter to the invoice at the agreed price.

  1. One plain language question across the master and every amendment Each finding links to the clause a reader can open Findings from each document are listed separately.

  2. Requested increase against the cap and the index Request date against the notice period Items the contract fixes for the term, listed separately.

  3. Atlas proposes the next action, with the clauses it rests on The category lead edits or approves it If you renegotiate, the amendment runs in Contractflow as a Word redline.

  4. Invoiceflow checks contract pricing on every invoice line Lines above the agreed rate are held with the clause attached AP and the buyer see the same exception.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Common questions

Can a supplier raise prices in the middle of a contract?

Only if the contract allows it. Look for an escalation or price adjustment clause, the index or cap it uses, how often it applies and the notice required, and check amendments that changed those terms. Atlas finds and cites all of them in one question. Explore Atlas.

How do you respond to a supplier price increase letter?

Check the request against the contract before replying: the allowed increase, the index, the effective date and the notice period. Reply citing the clauses, and accept only what the contract permits or what you choose to renegotiate. Then make sure invoices follow the agreed price. See invoice to contract compliance.

Does Atlas read amendments as well as the master agreement?

Yes. Atlas reads masters, amendments and related agreements together, so an answer about price reflects the terms in force, such as a cap added in a later amendment. Each finding links to the clause, and a person checks it before acting. See procurement contract management.
