# What is direct procurement?

Direct procurement is sourcing and buying the raw materials, goods and services that go straight into the products or services a company produces and sells.

## How it works

Direct procurement supplies the manufacturing or production process. Goods are often bought in bulk to manage cost and come from a qualified list of vendors. Suppliers must meet minimum order quantities, quality and industry standards, and price targets. Once approved, contracts are signed, orders are placed against them, and deliveries are scheduled to match production.

- **Relationships.**Fewer, longer term strategic suppliers.
