# What is decentralized procurement?

Decentralized procurement is a model where purchasing authority sits with local branches, sites or business units, so each one buys what it needs instead of going through a central team.

## How it works

Branch or site managers control their own spending and buying, and review their own performance. The purchasing unit sits at the operating site and may coordinate with others informally. Organizations spread across many regions often prefer this model because local teams know local needs and suppliers.
