A contract scorecard measures how a contract is performing over time against agreed measures, so both parties share one view of progress and results. ## How a contract scorecard works The scorecard breaks contract performance into categories, such as financial results, delivery, service levels and outcomes, and gives each a measure that can be scored. Both parties agree the measures and how they will be collected before the scorecard is used, which removes argument later about what good looks like. ## Why it matters A scorecard turns contract management from filing into oversight. It helps the business: ## Who uses it Strategic sourcing and procurement managers usually run the scorecard, with input from the business owners who use the supplier. Designing one also forces clarity about outcomes, which helps avoid unclear objectives, hidden costs and relationships that slowly sour. ## How Aavenir handles it [Obligationflow](https://aavenir.com/solutions/contract-obligation-management-software/) tracks each contract's obligations and service levels and records whether they were met, which gives a scorecard its data. A contract scorecard measures one agreement against its own terms. A vendor scorecard rates a supplier across everything it supplies, which may span several contracts. [Read about vendor scorecards](https://aavenir.com/glossary/vendor-scorecard/). ### ### What should a contract scorecard include? Measures tied to the contract's purpose: delivery, quality, service levels, cost against budget and agreed outcomes. Keep the list short, define how each is measured and agree it with the other party up front. [Read about contract obligations](https://aavenir.com/glossary/contract-obligations/). ### ### How often should a contract scorecard be updated? Often enough to act on it, usually monthly or quarterly for important contracts. A final scorecard before the renewal notice date gives the evidence needed to renew, renegotiate or exit.
