# What is contract obligations?

Contract obligations are the duties each party agrees to perform under a contract, such as paying on time, meeting service levels, keeping insurance in force, sending reports or protecting data.

## Common types of obligations

- **Financial.**Payments, price adjustments, rebates, service credits.

- **Performance.**Service levels, delivery dates, quality standards.

- **Compliance.**Insurance certificates, data protection, audits, regulatory filings.

- **Reporting.**Quarterly reviews, usage reports, minutes.

- **Rights you are owed.**Discounts, credits and caps the counterparty must honor.

## Why obligations get missed

Obligations sit in different clauses, schedules and amendments, and the person who signed is rarely the person who has to deliver. Without an owner and a due date for each one, they are found only when something goes wrong: a lapsed certificate, an unclaimed credit, a missed notice window.
