# What is a contract audit?

A contract audit is a periodic review that checks whether a contract's terms are being met, by both parties, in what was delivered, what was billed and how obligations were kept.

## How a contract audit works

The audit can cover one contract or the whole portfolio. Auditors compare the contract terms with what actually happened: invoices against agreed rates, deliveries against scope, service levels against reports, and obligations such as insurance, data protection or reporting against the evidence. Controls, policies, records and logs are inspected along the way.

- **Scope.**choose contracts by value, risk or known issues.

- **Gather.**the contract, amendments, orders, invoices and performance records.

- **Compare.**terms with actual delivery and billing.

- **Report.**findings, overpayments and compliance gaps.
