# What is cloud computing for supply chain?

Cloud computing delivers storage, servers, databases and software over the internet, letting supply chain partners share data and tools without local systems.

## How cloud computing works

Instead of keeping files and software on local machines, the business uses resources hosted by a provider and reached through the web. Any device with access can use the data and the programs that run on it. Services are commonly sold as software, platforms or infrastructure, and the provider runs the hardware, updates and much of the security.
